I’m in a class discussion right now, (yep, blogging in class), and we’re discussing a variety of social, political, and educational issues. It was recently brought to my attention that the salaries of everyone who works at this lovely state institution are public knowledge. They’re also easily accessible on the interwebs. So I started looking at professor and lecturer salaries in the communication college and, for example, the business college. Wow.
A full-time lecturer, which requires a master’s degree, in communications at the University of Tennessee maxes out at $32K. Lame. I quit a job making more than that to come get my master’s here. Not that anyone gets into journalism for the money, but I sure would like to think someone who has a master’s degree could at least pay their bills.
