~Ben Marrison, Editor of The Columbus Dispatch in interview with James C. Foust for the book “Online Journalism: Principles and Practices of News for the Web, 3rd Edition”
Social media, and the web in general, are playing a role in news-gathering on a local and national scale. For a social media class, I will be conducting a study, of sorts, on how local television news stations are using social media to interact with their audiences and using user-generated content in reporting and gathering news. I have lots of questions…. but no answers yet. Gotta start somewhere, right?
Undergraduate schooling is all about tests and memorization. Basically a test to make sure you know how to learn. Graduate school is very different. Projects and papers are the name of the game. Explaining that I know something and not picking the answer from a list of options is my preference and now I really get to start bringing my interests and skills to the table. Bring it on!
